You could also highlight the fact that your experience matches up to the industry standards.
The first thing to do is to write down your goals and aspirations. Make sure that you write down the details about your goals. Write down the time that you plan to achieve them. If you can’t get your resume done in one day, don’t worry. Just try to finish it within a week. Make sure to include all of your goals in your resume. You may have more than one goal, so be careful with how many goals you list. Remember, your resume is your first impression, so make sure that it reflects you well.

There are thousands of jobs available in this economy right now, and many of them don’t require a degree. But if you want to get hired and land a position at the company you’d like to work for, you better have a good resume.
There are two basic kinds of resumes. They’re referred to as chronological and functional. Both types are important, but when hiring managers read resumes, the most successful candidates tend to use the chronological style. This allows them to cover all the important parts of a candidate’s employment history and education in one document.
A chronological resume starts with the most recent job and works backward. This makes sense. Think of it this way: A hiring manager is looking for evidence of your ability to solve problems and manage people. If you start your resume with your most recent job, you show off the skills that make you a good fit for the job you’re applying for.
You should also include your most relevant accomplishments. If you’re looking for a marketing role, including how you developed a campaign that generated more than $1 million in new revenue. If you’re applying for an account executive position, talk about how you created a new account that brought in $20,000 in revenue. If you’re a sales representative, mention how you closed five deals.
The second kind of resume, the functional, shows what you can do and has nothing to do with your history. This resume format allows you to focus on what you’re good at. If you’re a developer, list the languages you’ve worked with, the tools you’ve used, and the technology you’ve mastered. If you’re an accountant, talk about how you’ve saved your client’s money and why they should hire you.
You can write about any aspect of your experience that you want. But if you use the wrong keywords, you might not get noticed by the hiring manager.
Here’s where you have to get really creative. You can write about any area of your experience that relates to the job you’re applying for. But you need to include the keywords that the hiring manager is likely to use to search for qualified candidates. For example, if you’re applying for a web developer position, you can talk about web design, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. If you’re applying for a finance role, you could write about financial analysis, budgeting, or tax preparation.

So what’s the right length for your resume?
I’m going to be honest. A three-page resume isn’t enough. I know, I know. It’s common advice to cut your resume to one page, but it doesn’t always work. I’ve interviewed hundreds of candidates, and I can tell you that most of them have more than one page. In fact, some of them have as many as five.
There are two reasons why you need more than one page. One is that the first page of a resume is the hardest to get noticed. It’s the first thing they see. The second reason is that more than one page means that you can get more specific.
Your resume needs to be specific. It’s not a general overview of your entire career. It needs to highlight the skills and experience that are relevant to the job you’re applying for. You can make your resume more specific by including additional details about the job and the company.
But don’t get bogged down in details. If you can’t explain it in a few sentences, leave it out. Don’t try to include everything. The more information you put in, the less focused your resume will be.
You can also improve your resume by organizing it. The best resumes are arranged by function, like this:

And then, after that, you can add a summary of your overall experience. For example, in the section of your resume that includes your work history, you could list the companies you’ve worked for and how long you’ve been there. You can also include a list of your responsibilities and achievements at each position.
Finally, you can add the most relevant keywords. You want to use your keywords in your job description. And you want to use your keywords in the section of your resume that contains your accomplishments. That way, if the hiring manager uses your keywords, your resume will match the job description and show up in the search results.
As a rule of thumb, you should keep your resume between one and two pages. If you can, I recommend putting all your experiences on the first page. You might think it’s a little longer, but it’s really not. The key to being effective is to use your experiences to demonstrate what you can do.

How would you approach this problem?The interviewer wants to see whether you have any ideas of your own. If you don’t, you’re going to fail. But if you do, you’ve demonstrated that you can think of things that no one else has thought of yet. Even better, you’ve shown that you have a sense of which parts of the interview process are important and which parts aren’t. That’s a sign that you’ll be able to manage your own time and focus, and that you’ll do a good job in the role.
- You’re given a list of names, and asked to write a program that returns the number of people who have more than $1,000 in savings. Which of these is the most efficient algorithm?Again, the interviewer wants to see whether you have any ideas of your own. But this time, you’re going to have to explain to the interviewer how you’re thinking about the problem. If you just say “I’m going to look up how many people in the world have more than $1,000 in savings, and I’m going to divide that by the total number of people in the world,” the interviewer will probably laugh, and the interview will be over before you get a chance to talk about what you did to solve the problem.Instead, the interviewer needs to hear how you’re going to look up the data, what kind of data you’ll use, how you’ll filter the data, and how you’ll perform the calculation.
- You’re given a list of five animals and asked to select the one that should be made into a drink. Which animal should you choose?Once again, the interviewer wants to see whether you have any ideas of your own. And once again, you need to tell the interviewer what you know about the subject. How much do you know? Which animals should be included in the drink? Why? And which of them makes the best taste?
A good interview problem will show that you’ve done real-world work. It will help you understand the problem that you’re being asked to solve, and demonstrate what it means to you. Most importantly, it will tell the interviewer what you know and how you’re going to go about learning more. That gives you a leg up on the competition, and the ability to explain your solution to the interviewer in your own terms.
